🎖 Michel Leclercq, citizen energy pioneer, awarded Chevalier of the National Order of Merit! 🌱

Ten years ago, Michel Leclercq—co-founder of Énergie Partagée and Énergies citoyennes en Pays de Vilaine (EPV)—inaugurated France’s first citizen wind farm in Béganne. This groundbreaking project united over 1,000 citizens and local businesses around renewable energy, marking a milestone in the community energy transition.

This honor rightly acknowledges Michel Leclercq’s tireless commitment. His work has inspired many similar projects across France, often supported by Énergie Partagée.

Today, Énergie Partagée continues to promote and support these initiatives nationwide, strengthening citizen involvement in the energy transition. The movement now encompasses nearly 370 citizen-led projects, all certified with the Énergie Partagée Label. Its funding tool, Énergie Partagée Investissement—supported by over 7,500 citizen shareholders—has co-financed 187 projects with €48 million to date.

As Erwan Boumard, Director of Énergie Partagée, notes: “Around 200 jobs in France are now linked to the citizen energy concept,” proving that its impact goes far beyond energy production.

🎙️ Énergie Partagée, a Citizen-Powered Energy Pioneer Featured on France Inter!

Last Thursday, the segment “On se décarbone” by Raphael Gerson (Le 5/7 hosted by Mathilde Munos on France Inter), showcased a real solution for the social acceptance of wind farms: citizen-led projects supported by Énergie Partagée.

It all began ten years ago with the Béganne wind farm in Brittany, funded and decided by over 1,000 local residents. Today, more than 500 similar initiatives exist across France: wind farms, solar plants, geothermal stations… Citizens and local governments co-manage governance and make key decisions, such as project locations.

Through Énergie Partagée, these projects allow citizens to invest in the energy transition close to home while creating local benefits—especially in job creation. The platform facilitates new projects by collecting community savings and guiding ideas through to commissioning.

💡 An inspiring model of democratic and local energy transition!

☀️ First Ground-Based Citizen Solar Farm in the Grand Est Region: A Model Project Labeled by Énergie Partagée!

On September 13, the Grand Est region will inaugurate the solar farm at the Espace du Génie in Écrouves—a 11.87 MW project developed on a former military brownfield. This citizen-led initiative is a collaboration between SEM SIPEnR, Enercoop Nord-Est (ENErgic), Énergie Partagée, and the Terres Touloises Community of Municipalities (CC2T).

Why is it remarkable?

With shared governance and citizen funding, the project is a milestone for local energy transition while repurposing a disused military site. Labeled by Énergie Partagée, it exemplifies a strong commitment to renewable energy that respects both territory and people.

As it is managed by local and social economy actors, this project enables the community to reclaim ownership of renewable energy production. It’s a virtuous initiative combining shared governance, ethical funding, local roots, and ecological responsibility,” says Erwan Boumard, Director of Énergie Partagée.

🔋 11.81 MW of renewable power, generating 13,000 MWh of green electricity annually—a big step forward thanks to citizen investment!
